SSDs for Enhanced User Experience and System Performance

SSDs play a crucial role in improving user experience and system performance for PCs and client devices. Micron Technology, Inc. has introduced the Micron 2600 NVMe SSD, a cost-effective storage solution tailored for OEMs. Featuring the industry's first 9th-generation QLC NAND in an SSD, the 2600 SSD incorporates Micron's innovative Adaptive Write Technology (AWT) to deliver exceptional PCIe Gen 4 performance with QLC economics. Compared to other value QLC and TLC SSDs, the Micron 2600 SSD boasts up to 63% faster sequential write and 49% faster random write speeds, providing a top-notch user experience for demanding client users.

"The Micron 2600 QLC SSD outperforms competitive value TLC drives," stated Mark Montierth, corporate vice president and general manager of the Mobile and Client Business Unit at Micron Technology. "By combining high-performance G9 NAND with Adaptive Write Technology, Micron has unlocked performance levels previously only achievable with TLC drives. This innovation milestone from Micron paves the way for wider adoption of QLC NAND among commercial users."

Optimized QLC NAND Performance

Micron's AWT enhances the write performance of QLC NAND by introducing a multi-tiered SLC, TLC, and QLC dynamic caching architecture to boost sequential write speeds. This improvement allows for up to four times faster sequential write speeds while continuously writing up to 800 GB of data to a 2 TB SSD.

The advanced six-plane NAND architecture of Micron's 2 Tb G9 QLC NAND enables higher degrees of parallelism, increasing read and write commands issued to the NAND simultaneously for improved performance. With speeds reaching up to 3.6 GB/s, the 2600 SSD offers the fastest NAND I/O rate currently available in a client SSD.

Storage Matters

Efficient PC storage solutions lead to enhanced application productivity and improved user experience. The Micron 2600 SSD elevates everyday computing experiences, significantly boosting productivity for commonly used applications.

Enhanced Performance: The 2600 SSD accelerates data access, read and write speeds, resulting in quicker boot times, faster application launch times, and enhanced system responsiveness. Reduced OS image installation time streamlines the manufacturing process and enables rapid commercial PC drive imaging for IT departments.

AI PC Applications: Storage performance plays a crucial role in the advancement of AI-driven applications. The fast read access of the 2600 SSD allows for quick loading of AI models, facilitating seamless transitions between tasks.

User Experience: AWT ensures that active data is optimally stored in the SSD, leading to smoother performance for content creation, casual gaming, and everyday computing. In PCMark 10 testing, the 2600 SSD achieved up to 44% better scoring and 43% better bandwidth compared to competitive value TLC SSDs, showcasing the exceptional user experience provided by the 2600 SSD.

The Micron 2600 NVMe SSD is now available to OEMs worldwide in 22x30 mm, 22x42 mm, and 22x80 mm form factors, with capacities ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB. The variety of smaller form factors, capacity options, and single-sided design make it ideal for handhelds, ultra-thin laptops, and workstations. For instance, the compact 2 TB, 22x30 mm form factor is ultra-small and high-capacity, perfect for use in limited-space designs like handheld gaming devices.
